Get any 3 types of Food license in INDIA :
- Basic Registration : For small/ petty retailers having sales turnover < 12 lakh p.a.
- State License : For medium FBOs having sales turnover > 12 lakh but upto 2 crore p.a.
- Central License : For FBOs having sales Turnover > 2 crore p.a. / Import- Export / Large scale manufacturing unit
What is FSSAI and who all needs it ?
Every person who wish to start Food Business in India, has to have FSSAI number whether it would be a home-operating FBO or a street vendor. List of FBOs :
- FBOs like wholesalers, distributors, suppliers, retailers, food vending establishments, hawkers, clubs, canteens, Dhabas, hotels, restaurants, and storage facilities with an annual turnover of less than Rs.12 lakh, between Rs.12 Lakh- Rs.20 crores or more than Rs.20 crores.
- Petty producers manufacturing by itself
- A makeshift stall selling food products.
- Businesses involved in selling food at a social or a religious gathering, other than a caterer.
- Cottage industries associated with food products
- Production or processing units of vegetable oil by the process of solvent extraction and refineries including oil expeller system. With a capacity to provide not more than 100 kg/liter per day (except milk or meat).
- Dairy units, involved in procurement/collection/handling/chilling of milk, having a capacity of not more than 500 liters per day, or up to 2.5 Metric Ton of milk solids annually.
- A slaughtering capacity of not more than 2 large animals or 10 small animals or 50 poultry birds per day.
- Production and processing units of vegetable oil by the process of solvent extraction and refineries including oil expeller unit. With a turnover within Rs. 12 lacs to Rs. 20 crores annually.
- Hotels of 4-star ratings or less or that have been rated 5-star or more.
- Storages having a capacity of less than 50,000 metric tonnes yearly or with a capacity of more than 50,000 metric tonnes.
- All food processing units including re-packers, with a daily capacity of not less than 100 kg/liter to up to 2 metric tonnes.
- 100 % export oriented units involved in food production or processing.
- Caterers working under Central Government or related agencies such as Railways, Airlines and airport, Seaport, Defence, etc.
- All food processing units including re-packers and excluding the grains, pulses & cereals milling units with a capacity of over 2 metric tonnes per day.
- All FBOs involved in producing an item of food, additive or it’s ingredient, using some new process or technology, and/or a combination thereof, whose safety has not been established yet by the FSSAI. Or they may not have a history of safe usage. It covers the food articles being introduced in the country, for the first time.
FSSAI Renewal, Modification and Compliance
FSSAI RENEWAL
Since FSSAI can be opt for 1-5 years as per applicants own choice and before expiry of FSSAI License, Renewal of Food License is mandatory if FBO wish to continue its business. The procedure and fees for renewal is same as of FSSAI Application.
FSSAI MODIFICATION/ SURRENDER
In case of any changes in FBOs information like mobile no., Email id, address or any other changes, FBOs can apply for Modification of FSSAI. It mandates the necessary documents of changed information and the government fees of Rs. 100/-.
In case FBO wish to discontinue its business, surrender of License is advised. Since it will not create any mess in case FBO wish to apply for FSSAI in future.
FSSAI COMPLIANCE
All Food Business Operators (FBOs) have to comply with the rules and regulations under the FSSAI. FSSAI holds a random investigation of the product. A Food Safety Official has the authority from FSSAI to inspect the working conditions along with the food handling techniques of the operators, associates, and staff.
In addition FBOs have to file an Annual return under form D1 and D2.
Form D1 : All food importers, manufacturers, packers, labellers, re-labellers and re-packers must mandatorily file form D1 with the FSSAI licensing authority. Last date of filing shall be 31st May of next financial year.
Form D2 : Form D2 is a half-yearly return. The FBO involved in the business of manufacturing or importing milk or milk products is required to file Form D2. The due dates are 31st May and 30the November.
